Welcome to Fisher Investments

Here among the towering redwoods overlooking the Pacific Ocean, you gain a different perspective than you get in the concrete canyons of Wall Street. Here, we know that managing investments is not just about acquiring money. It is about the ability to control your destiny. The mission of Fisher Investments is to provide institutional-caliber value and service to high net worth individuals in all market conditions. We strive to accomplish this objective through the disciplined application of our unique capital markets technology and superior intellectual capital.

Welcome to Fisher Investments. Here, we look beyond the limited horizon of Wall Street to help high net worth investors, like you, realize their visions for success. We all are looking to make prudent investment decisions based on fact, not emotion, to protect and grow our hard-won assets. But we also want more… At Fisher Investments, our objective, like yours, is the achievement of long-term sustained growth and the ability to anticipate and thrive through the constantly changing marketplace while managing the risk and volatility of our investments.

Ken Fisher has been managing money for over 30 years. He founded Fisher Investments in order to serve the needs of institutional and high net worth investors. Most people know Ken Fisher as a highly respected investment manager, author of several investment books and academic studies and an innovator in investment theory. You may have read Ken’s monthly Portfolio Strategy column in Forbes Magazine, which he has written for the last 20 years – making him one of the longest-running columnists in Forbes 80+ year history.

Based on the firm’s investment philosophy and an outstanding record of achievement, Fisher Investments has grown into a global company servicing thousands of America’s most successful individuals and institutions in all 50 states, as well as in Canada, the U.K. and elsewhere.

Staying one step ahead...

What we’re trying to do in a very simple sense is to create a future-based management service, where we’re always trying to build that which hasn’t been done yet, to have an edge on people, both in terms of money management as well as in service. So, our core principle is, “what do we need to do that no one’s done yet?” Build the future now, develop technology that hasn’t been deployed yet, build capital market science no one’s known yet and then build that into service capability that no one’s ever delivered yet.

What makes Fisher Investments different

[I believe] Fisher Investments is different and better than our competitors for several reasons. First we have a direct relationship with our customers. Second of all, the way we approach the portfolio management process, is from a very flexible standpoint where we can be opportunistic and take advantage of what we see coming at us in the capital markets. So, if we see a bear market coming, we’ve got the ability to get defensive and [seek to] protect you from the downside of the bear market. Fisher Investments knows that if we don’t take care of the customer, somebody else will. Everybody in the firm understands, appreciates that and devotes their employment to achieving that.

Capital markets technology

In recent years, the investment landscape has changed, making it more difficult for the self-directed investor to manage his own portfolio - Changing market forces require a global perspective and sophisticated research capabilities, so you can anticipate changes in the marketplace. It is not enough just to respond.

And we have a commitment to develop what we call, “capital markets technology”, which is really a fancy way of saying innovation—to think of new ways of how to beat the market, beat our peers, add value for our clients. It’s a forward-looking approach, where many of our peers are really backward-looking.

Achieving investment goals

The key to achieving the personal investment goals for the high net worth individual is understanding history and being agile in anticipating events and how they are factored into the market with the ability to respond quickly.

And it’s really through innovation that we can come up with information that we can build into the portfolio management process. [I believe the main] advantage that Fisher Investments has over our competitors is our ability to find information that is either not already priced in the market or to know things other people don’t know.

Service and specialization

The Fisher Investments’ Private Client Group provides institutional caliber portfolio management services to high net worth individuals, like you…people with significant investment portfolios …people who have worked with investment managers before or self-managed their assets…people who know what they want from their investments, but may or may not be sure how to achieve it in these challenging times.

Our experience has been that many financial planners and brokers tend to play the role of a “jack-of-all-trades”. That they’re responsible for gathering assets, they’re responsible for servicing their clients, they’re responsible for doing research and managing portfolios and doing administrative work. And our belief is that if you can specialize and divide that labor and those requirements up among specialists, you have a much better result. Our fees are going to be based on the assets under management of the client, our incentive is to try and minimize transaction costs and only experience them when we can really make decisions that we think are going to benefit the value of the account. And Fisher Investments tries to avoid any sort of transactions that would be for the purpose of generating fees. That’s not how we earn our money.

Reduced conflicts of interest

Fisher Investments is different from a typical Wall Street firm in the manner with which we manage a portfolio. We simply operate under a limited power of attorney and place transactions on your behalf with the brokerage firm where your assets are custodied. So, we do not receive any direct benefit from trading more frequently in your account.

Dynamic approach

The Portfolio Evaluation Group will implement an investment strategy that meets your personal needs and objectives and supports the achievement of your financial goals.

Throughout the history of the Private Client Group, this Fisher Investments has made very significant calls both related to bear markets, bull markets, and different style decisions along the way. In meetings with prospective customers, we’re delighted to go into as much detail as people might want about those decisions, and exactly what the firm did inside the portfolio to benefit our clientele.

Dedicated service person

To ensure that we service our clients to the level that they deserve, Fisher Investments actually assigns a dedicated service person called an Investment Counselor, who is the client’s main liaison to the Investment Policy Committee and the firm in general.

Personalized service

It is not Fisher Investments’ goal to have our clients pick up the phone and to speak with someone that they may have not spoken to in the past and to speak with a random person. It’s really to give the client a sense that they are working with individuals that understand their personal circumstances and individuals that can certainly fulfill their needs.

Lasting relationships

One of the great things about the position of investment counselor that we think is unique is that we do develop a long-term relationship with our clients. Because our clients aren’t calling just a service center where they get a different person virtually every time they call. At Fisher Investments, they get the same investment counselor each and every time. And so yes, a long-term relationship is developed that clients really find beneficial.

The Investment Policy Committee

At Fisher Investments, your dedicated investment team acts on the strategic guidance from the Investment Policy Committee. The Investment Policy Committee is a three-person group that ultimately makes all of the portfolio-specific investment decisions for the firm. We’re collectively meeting, talking, looking at those critical factors, the things that will impact markets, the things that will change what we should have in allocations and thinking about what parts of what we know about capital market science and what’s going on in the world right now tell us we shouldn’t be doing this right now, but instead should be doing that.

Whenever we have an edge today in being able to view the world differently than everyone else, we can be fairly confident that within several years, the rest of the world will have caught up. So, we have to keep committed to continuously innovating how we think about the markets to stay ahead of the pack.

Portfolio strategy

And so what we want to do in our investment process is make sure that we’ve got the portfolio over-weighted in the parts of the market that we think are going to do well, under-weighted in the parts of the market that we don’t think are going to do well, so that we can be flexible to take advantage of the information that we have.

Customer satisfaction

The easiest indication to tell if Fisher Investments is doing the job that it proposes for its customers is when our customers actually call us with referrals of their friends and family and ask them to take a look at us as well. If we can help their friends and family too, that’s the ultimate in customer satisfaction.
